CaSSOA Gold is the highest grade in the storage industry, and it is awarded on inspection rather than application. Here is what is actually on the ground.

CaSSOA grades storage sites bronze, silver and gold, and gold is only awarded after an inspector has walked the site and checked the perimeter, the monitoring and the record keeping. It is not a badge you apply for and receive. Most insurers will ask which grade your storage site holds before they quote on a caravan left away from home.

Cameras cover the yard, the indoor unit and every approach to the site, and the footage is recorded rather than simply watched. That matters twice over: it deters anyone weighing the site up, and if something does happen there is a record to hand to the police and to your insurer.

Out of hours, infrared sensors pick up movement across the site. It covers the hours when nobody is expected to be in the yard, which is when the risk actually sits, and it works in the dark and in weather that would defeat a camera on its own.

This is a working farm and people live on it. That is the layer no amount of equipment replaces: somebody is here overnight, at weekends and through the winter, and an unfamiliar vehicle in the lane gets noticed rather than recorded.

Customers do not manoeuvre their own vehicles in the yard. Our team moves them in and out, which is why we ask for twelve hours notice on a collection. It means no stranger is reversing a van between other people’s caravans, and nobody has a reason to be in the yard unaccompanied.
Twelve hours notice on collectionThe site is open 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. Self storage customers let themselves in within those hours; caravans and vehicles are moved by our staff on a booked slot. Outside those hours nobody is expected to be in the yard, which is when the infrared sensors and the people living on the premises do the work.
What secure storage actually means here
Secure storage in North Wales is judged on what is on the ground rather than what is in the advert, which is why this site is inspected. CaSSOA Gold is the highest of the three grades awarded by CaSSOA, the trade body that inspects storage sites, and it covers the perimeter, the monitoring, the access control and the records of who is on site and what is stored there. An inspector visits to award it, and re-visits to keep it.
The yard sits inside a working family farm at Tremeirchion, two miles off the A55 at junction 28. That matters more than any single piece of equipment: there are people living on site every night of the year, which is the part of secure caravan storage that no camera replaces. Purpose-built steel barriers control the entrance, recorded CCTV covers the yard, the approaches and the indoor storage unit, and infrared sensors run out of hours.
The same arrangements protect everything on site, whether that is a touring caravan on hardstanding, a motorhome under cover, a boat on its trailer or a self storage unit holding the contents of a house. Nothing is stored behind a lesser standard because it is smaller or cheaper.
Security is also a financial question. Most caravan and motorhome insurers ask where a vehicle is kept when it is not in use, and many either require an accredited site or price the risk by grade, so telling your insurer the site holds Gold is usually worth money. It is worth setting that saving against the storage rate before comparing two sites on price alone.
